Thermal Performance Study of a Cement-Based Mortar Incorporating EPS Beads

Recycling plastic waste has been one of the most significant challenges in recent decade. The reuse produced cellular plastics (i.e. EPS) within a conventional construction binder can contribute, simultaneously, to elimination and improving energy performances building envelopes. This work investigates recycling expanded polystyrene (EPS) cement-based matrix. aim is develop lightweight, energy-efficient composite for eco-construction. Portland cement was mixed with small amount gypsum (4 wt%) before adding EPS aggregates ranging from 0–0.6 wt%. thermal properties were determined using two different non-destructive methods, transient plane source technique (Hot Disk Method) Flash method. experimental results showed remarkable decrease 54, 12, 36% conductivity, diffusivity, density, respectively. These indicate improvement resistance EPS-cement-gypsum- mixes. In addition, water absorption compressive tests revealed that composites containing beads have improved durability be used structural insulation purposes. Finally, Numerical indicated savings up 18% may achieved by applying waste-based mortar, underscoring promise this product efficiency benefits.
